Miel Bernstein

Miel has been a horse lover all her life. She began her life with horses riding in the mountains of Banff, Alberta at an early age. As a young teen she moved to Vancouver and began taking English lessons. For 15 years she showed successfully on the 'A' circuit across the West Coast in the hunters and equitation. This encouraged her love of the sport horse and particularly the warmblood, thoroughbred and warmblood cross.

After many years of competition, it was time for something more. Natural horsemanship came into her life. This was the next step to further deepen her relationship with horses. This lead her on a path to explore the nature of the horse, how to keep them truly happy and

healthy, as well as how to communicate with, and honour, the equine, fully.

As well as natural horsemanship training, she learned of barefoot hoofcare and lifestyle teachings. Through this she learned  not only a holistic approach to hoofcare, but also to living conditions, riding and training,as well as healing techniques. She has since been inspired to learn all she can to keep her own horses, as well as all in her care, sound and healthy body, mind and spirit.

Miellie Meadows is truly a labour of love; combining a passion for horses, A love of the sport, competition horse, and the knowledge that a natural and healthy lifestyle for horses and humans is extremely important for health, well being and success.

Claus Brunner

Clause's relationship with horses began when he met Miel and started hanging out with her and Gossie at the barn. An instant friendship was born between Claus and Miss Gossie. Claus has always been a nature, and animal lover.

Claus has a wonderful calming way about him that makes him a natural at handling horses. Claus, by profession, is a massage practitioner for humans.  On his days away from massage Claus really makes things happen on the farm. Claus has become extremely handy and creative, and is the chief builder, fixer and helper with everything.

Claus is great in a horse emergency, and has been there to save a horse stuck in the fence or cast in a stall. Claus is also a great midwife and has assisted many a first time broodmare in delivering their foals.

Claus and Miel treat all the boarders at the farm as part of their beloved family.

Mel Zeisler

Mel’s mother expressed, “You are never too old to learn something new - you just have to keep your mind open.” Melanie Zeisler born in Germany grew up with horses. Her mom was a hunter, jumper, dressage rider and horse owner. She sent Mel to vaulting when she was only 4 years old to get one hour by herself on the horse.

A couple years later Mel started traditional riding lessons and competed in jumping and dressage shows. After reaching Level L she focused her career to vaulting and became one of the top ten vaulters in 1999. After that she quit her career as an active vaulter.

A year later her mom invited her to a clinic. That’s how Mel got introduced to Natural Horsemanship. Being totally fascinated by the bond the instructor and his horse had and shocked by knowing what she doesn’t know after being involved with horses for over 20 years, she started to study, observe and study some more.

In 2003 Mel came to Canada and started her own vaulting club. Just recently she moved into her own Savvy Station with her 4 horses and focuses on starting young horses. She is still obsessed with learning more about horses every day.

Laura Doyle

Laura is our new instructor of beginners at Miellie Meadows.  She has a natural talent for teaching and loves being the first person to teach people about horses.  She takes students from as young as 3 years old for lead line lessons and has a great affinity for teaching young teens.  She also encourages some of the mothers of her students to learn to ride so that the horse experience can be shared.  She is kind, patient and inspiring and offers insight into natural horsemanship and riding psychology as well.

Laura has studied dressage for the last decade and currently studies jumping, dressage and natural horsemanship with 3 different instructors including Dale Irwin.
